Keurig Connect

For Keurig (with VML)

Prototyped a connected brewer experience combining remote controls, personalization, loyalty, and commerce for early concept validation.

Keurig Connect mobile application concepts

Challenge

Keurig has always relied on testing to validate their business assumptions. When they wanted to explore consumer interest in the ability to control their brewers remotely, they worked with VML to develop an app that could do that, but would also introduce loyalty, personalization, and commerce within the same experience.

Approach

  • Rapid experience design workshop to align stakeholders on goals and key features.
  • Extensive interactive prototype - about 150 screens/states - including complex authentication and connectivity states.
  • Needed to integrate with an independent and parallel project to update the keurig.com mobile Web experience.

Result

This project was an example of a lot of people putting in a lot of effort, but ultimately having to stand by as the business needed to change priorities and move on to other goals before this one could be tested as planned. In retrospect, there were too many complex streams that needed to come together too quickly. It may have been more successful to have focused on just the remote connectivity portion and have left the commerce and loyalty tactics until after learning if there was even any demand for remote brewing.
